Residents from Islington’s council estates are upset at the new luxury council housing developments being built next to their homes. Due to a shortage of housing in Angel, Islington Council has started building luxury apartments to accommodate the increasing number of people needing housing in the area.

Sarah Harris, 32, a mother from a nearby housing estate said: ”The new build has made our houses look like crap, the new tenants get brand new luxury apartments while we are still living in this dump. I don’t see how that is fair.”

The new apartments are located adjacent to the King’s Square estate, one of the oldest council estates in Islington. The development will house over 3,000 new tenants in around the EC1 area and will prove to be the biggest development in housing that Islington council have done to date. Steven Philips, Project Manager on the site said that the homes are some of the most luxurious council houses that he has built.

A representative from Islington Council said: ”Our aim building these new complexes was only to accommodate for the increasing number of people needing housing in the local area. The concerns from the locals about the condition of their housing have been taken into account and will be dealt with accordingly.”

Islington Council started this project six months ago and will finish this summer.
